Plastic Moulding & Tooling

A comprehensive range of moulding techniques and polymers, plus the toolroom that makes the moulds — giving customers the best plastic component solution available for the job.

Core processes

Moulding

Injection moulding

Thermoplastic components moulded across a broad range of polymers and part sizes. We advise on material selection, wall sections, gating and tolerances so the part is right for both function and production.

  • Engineering and commodity thermoplastics
  • Inserts, over-moulding and multi-cavity tooling
  • Short and medium production runs

Compression moulding

Ideal for thermoset materials and larger, robust parts. Compression tooling and presses on site let us handle materials and geometries that injection moulding cannot.

  • Thermoset and rubber-modified compounds
  • Electrically and thermally resistant components
  • Low-to-medium volume production

Trade & contract moulding

Bring us your existing tool and we'll run it. Post-manufacture facilities provide full support for customers up to and beyond component manufacture — inspection, finishing, assembly and logistics.

  • Tool transfer, refurbishment and maintenance
  • Scheduled call-off and stock-holding
  • Full inspection and certification on request
The toolroom

Tool design systems & 3D machining

Extensive design and development facilities ensure the accurate and economical manufacture of a product to customer specifications. Our in-house toolroom is supported by a range of CAD/CAM computer systems, DNC-linked to CNC machinery.

Mould-tool design

CAD/CAM design of injection and compression tools, with flow and design-for-manufacture review before cutting.

CNC milling

Heidenhain-controlled CNC milling machines, DNC-linked to the CAD/CAM system for direct machining from the model.

Spark erosion

EDM / spark erosion for fine detail, sharp internal corners and hardened tool steels.

Turning & lathe work

Lathes for tooling components, bushes, cores and general machined parts.

Wire cutting & stripping

Wire erosion and stripping for precise profiles and inserts.

Precision CMM inspection

Co-ordinate measuring machine for first-off approval and in-process quality checks.

Additive manufacturing

3D printing

Our in-house 3D print farm has a selection of printers for both FDM and mSLA printing of parts up to a volume of 300 × 300 × 400 mm in a wide range of materials.

We use it for rapid prototypes, jigs and fixtures for the shop floor, low-volume production parts and to prove a design before a mould tool is cut.

  • FDM — functional prototypes & fixtures
  • mSLA — fine-detail and smooth-surface parts
  • Design support and file preparation
Finishing

Secondary operations & assembly

Post-manufacture facilities provide full support for customers up to and beyond component manufacture, so parts leave TekComp ready to use.

  • Ultrasonic welding
  • Wire cutting & stripping
  • Insert fitting & staking
  • Trimming, de-gating & de-flashing
  • Part assembly & sub-assembly
  • Printing, labelling & marking
  • Inspection & batch certification
  • Packaging & despatch
